Tableau Dual Axis Charts

A Tableau dual-axis chart can be created by following the steps below. The SuperStore sample data on Tableau Desktop is used for the tutorial. Watch the steps on YouTube.

  1. Drag Order Date to Columns.
  2. Drag Sales to Rows.
  3. Change the view from Standard to Entire View.
  4. Under Marks, change the chart type from Automatic to Bar.
  5. Use the slider in Size to change the width of the bar.
  6. Drag Profit to Rows.
  7. Click the Profit card under Marks and choose Line as the chart type.
  8. Right-click the y-axis for Quantity and select Dual Axis.
  9. Right-click any axis and select Synchronize Axis.
  10. Right-click the second axis (Profit axis) and uncheck Show Header to hide it. To bring the 2nd axis header back, click the Profit pill and select Show Header.
  11. Right-click the Order Date at the top and select Hide Field Labels for Columns.
  12. Drag Sales and Profit to Label in the corresponding cards. Format the text if needed.
  13. Change color if needed by clicking the Color button.
